On December 4, 1904, Martha E. McDowell was united in marriage to Arthur M. Pope, who preceded her in death, March 21, 1938.  To this union eight children were born, five of whom survive her:  Walter M. and Vernon of Eldon, F. McDowell of Osage Beach, Frank of Brumley, Arthur and Clyde of Kaiser and Derrick McDowell of Bethel, Kansas.

She was converted and united with New Hope Baptist Church at the age of sixteen and remained a faithful Christian all her life.  Mrs. Pope had spent the greater part of the past twenty years in Eldon and her consecrated life and fine ideals has been an inspiring example to the many friends and neighbors who pay tribute to her memory as well as to her own children and loved ones.  She spoke only good of those with whom she came into contact and was never too busy to say an encouraging word or lend a helping hand to one in trouble or sorrow.  Memories of her love and kindness will linger long in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral services were conducted from Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, MO., by Rev. A. L. Alexander.  Burial was made in Gott Cemetery.
