ARTHUR EDWARDS ESTIMATES FOR MAIL ORDER KING

ROEBUCK OF SEARS-ROEBUCK IS OWNER OF THE JAMES SHACK FARM ON SALINE

Thursday, April 17, 1919

A. H. Edwards, tall lanky , Yankee, who motes up and down that placid and picturesque stream, known as the Osage river in a motor boat which bears the moniker of "Hummer ," is a estimater and tie buyer. With an experience of twenty five years in estimating timber, he can quickly make a correct estimate of the amount of work in a tree from a sapling to a giant of the forest. He can look at a tree and quickly tell how many ties it will cut, how much cordwood and how much stove wood will be cut from the top and branches. To the layman, it would be a difficult task to walk through several hundred acres forest and estimate within a few sticks just how much wood and ties, could be cut from the entire lot. But our Arthur Edwards can do this, apparently without effort and he has become master of the art, his fame has spread to the thriving western city known as Chicago.

Being king in his line, he is naturally wont to associate with kings in other lines, and our Arthur has tied up with the king of the mail order business, Mr. Roebuck of Sears and Roebuck. May we be forgiven if we advertise the mail order houses free. Mr .Roebuck being the owner of the James Shack farm, between the Saline and Eldon, desired to have the timber on the 500 acres cut, made into ties, cordwood and stove wood. He also wanted to know just how much timber was on the land and commissioned our Arthur to make the estimate which he has now completed.

Mr. Edwards is a tie buyer of experience, and has signed a new three year contract, which when completed will make a continuous service record often years as a tie buyer for one firm.
