Thompson Family Cemetery, Brazito, MO Cemetery monument of Henry Tomson and his wife, Elizabeth Lee, at the Thompson Family Cemetery located abt. 1-1 1/2 miles north of Brazito, Cole County, MO on the Terry Carrender farm (as of 2018). This monument was placed in the early 20th Century by descendents of Henry and Elizabeth in an effort led by Henry's grandson, Daniel Fraser Thompson. That effort, through excavation, located the cemetery which had been obliterated and plowed under by subsequent land owners sometime after the Civil War. Fourteen graves were found. In 1997, another Thompson Family effort, led by Alan Terry Wright and Mary Curtiss Roberts, surrounded the monument and a portion of the original burial ground with a cast iron fence to protect it from dislocation and damage from cattle. At the same time, stone from one of the fireplace chimneys of the nearby Henry Tomson log home was used to border the monument. Bronze plaques were attached to the fence providing much of the known history of Henry and ElizabethTomson as well as honoring Thompson family historians and donors who made the renovation and preservation project possible. The cemetery was rededicated August 31, 1997 in a formal ceremony that included speeches, prayer, hymns and the presentation and posting of the U.S. and Missouri flags by Eagle Scouts John, James and Joseph Wright, great grandsons of Henry and Elizabeth Tomson. Please note that by 1839 Henry Thompson had changed the spelling of his name to Tomson. Descendents spell the name in various ways, but most retained the original spelling of Thompson. Daniel Fraser Thompson, on the top of this monument, spelled the name Thompson, hence this cemetery is now, and will always be duly and properly named the "Thompson Family Cemetery".
