"Captain Zebulon Pike's Landing at Tuscumbia" Painting by John Wright (1863-1939), circa 1930s. A fanciful interpretation of Zebulon Pike's landing at the site of the future town of Tuscumbia, Missouri, then an Osage Indian camp. Likely date was in late July or early August, 1806. Pike's party of soldiers and Osage Indian hostages to be returned to their tribe, were headed upstream and parleyed with the Osage near what is now the Missouri-Kansas border on the headwaters of the Osage River.
