Taken from Judge Jenkins’ History of Miller County, Volume II: When the Peter Thompson District was established in 1872, it split the Franklin School District almost down the middle, leaving Sections 1, 2, and /5/8 of Section 3 in Township 41, Range 15 a part of the Harrison School district, with Sections 11, 12 and the northern halves of Sections 13, 14, 15, plus an irregular half of Section 10 forming School District Number 4 in said Township. The name of District Number 4 is unknown, and seemingly never functioned. The district cannot be found in the tax books, although appearing upon district plats. In 1878 the southern halves of Sections 13, 14, and 15 joined the Skinner District, leaving Sections 11, 12, and a part of 10 unorganized territory. In 1892 the Vernon Springs School District was established from territory in the Harrison District and the unorganized portion of old District Number 4 in Township 41, Range 15. School Resources |
